Are you looking for a job or waiting for one?

One mistake that most job seekers make is giving interviews and waiting for a call back. If you are expecting a great job opportunity to walk up and knock at your front door, then you need to wake up from that dream. There is a difference between looking for a job and waiting for one. If you have recently given a bunch of interviews and now are waiting for any one of the firms to call back, then you are not putting enough effort to find the job that may be perfect for. You may end up with a job that you aren’t satisfied with. In this article we discuss ways that will help you make your job hunt more effective.

Don’t stop looking

No matter what, until you are holding the job offer you want in your hand, which includes the right title, right salary, right starting date, etc.; don’t stop looking. As the old saying goes, it isn’t over until it’s over.

Don’t give up on your previous interview

If it has been only a few days, or weeks that you were told you will be called back, but still haven’t, don’t give up. Don’t wait for it or count on it coming through, for you. However, don’t give up on that either. You never know when you get the call back, so always be prepared.

Make use of your network

If you were referred  by an external recruiting agency or an independent consultant firm, ask them if they have any updates on your situations. Try connecting with an internal recruiter and ask her if the job position has been filled or is it still available. If you have contacts inside the organization, ask them if they can find out anything about what is going on.

Repeat point one again

Unless you’re independently wealthy, you can’t afford to sit and wait for any job offer to come. You need to keep your work channel filled with opportunities. No matter how well qualified you are, how much you liked them, how much they seemed to like you, and how much you want this specific job, keep looking!

Don’t panic

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that if you are not getting a call back, or if you are not finding the right opportunity, don’t let it get to your head. Consider the fact that there are so many people who give interviews on a daily basis, that sometimes the internal recruiters may forget to call back. Don’t lose hope. Keep the bigger picture in mind.
